Veterinary Surgeon

June 25th 2020

Position Filled: We are looking for a full or part-time vet at Chertsey Vets

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fully independent clinic, with a modern set-up and equipment, and a friendly team. We have diploma holding nurses, and experienced support staff.

Chertsey Vets was established in 2015 and is the Sister clinic to Woodham Lane. It is 3 miles away and both clinics work closely with each other. Referral soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, and cardiology are all carried out in-house at Chertsey.

Whether you are a recent graduate, someone returning to clinical work after time out, who would like a full surgical and medical mentoring programme from the senior vets, or an experienced vet, who is looking for increased responsibility as a senior veterinary surgeon, with the option to move gradually into a Clinical Director role, then we would love to hear from you.

This role would be particularly suitable for someone with a special interest, or certificate, in feline medicine.

We have a good case load, and plenty of opportunities for surgical training. We meet monthly to discuss cases, and the other vets are always the end of the phone or text message for a clinical discussion. There would be full on-site support from one of the partners if you are a recent graduate or a vet returning to clinical work.

As the senior veterinary surgeon you would look after the basic day to day running of the clinic, assuming responsibility for your clients and cases, and providing mentoring for junior staff, but with clinical support where needed, and management carried out by the partners.

The wide salary range listed reflects these differing levels of responsibility, and would reflect your experience and further study..

All staff have the support of other members of staff, and we all help when and where required. Throughout lockdown, the team has been amazing, going above and beyond in a really difficult time. Our vets all support each other with cases, and there's always someone to bounce ideas off.

We have all the textbooks you'd expect, very capable and knowledgeable nurses, and 3 vets studying for certificates/masters.

We fully support and encourage certificate study.

Salary range £35-£60k, 4.5 day week, and 1 in 3 Saturday morning only; with RCVS and VDS fees paid, 35 hours CPD funded, and no OOH.

We are a friendly team, just normal people who love offering clients the best possible service for them and their pets.

Are you looking for...

  • Clinical freedom?

  • Case continuity - including through to being involved with our referral clinicians?

  • Supportive management who listen and respond when you have an idea?

  • Clients who really care about their pets?

  • A truly independent clinic, where decisions can be made quickly?

  • Happy and friendly staff, who genuinely work together as a team?

  • The opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills?

We work to a gold standard approach to care. Cases are worked-up fully, and with our visiting referral surgeons, there is rarely a need to refer patients elsewhere.

You would be based at Chertsey Vets, but occasionally you may be required to work at Woodham Lane, or to attend Woodham Lane for surgical training. Our two branches are only 10 minutes apart, and work very closely together.

We would be happy if you are an experienced vet, have a certificate, or would like to start working towards one.

Vets are scheduled admin time and a lunch break every day.

We have:

  • No face-to-face client contact

  • Fully screened reception

  • Patients examined away from clients

  • Purpose built practices

  • 15 minute appointments

  • Low rise consult tables - so no lifting heavy dogs!

  • Endosurgery (inc keyhole spays)

  • Nurse clinics

  • Visiting soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeons

  • Visiting cardiologist

  • Accupuncture

  • Digital X-ray

  • Ultrasound

  • Electrocautary

  • Suction

  • Endoscopy

  • Laparoscope

  • Patient monitoring

  • In-house lab

  • Qualified nurses

  • Very capable reception team

  • Full time practice manager

  • Veterinary ambulance

What makes us different?

We are genuinely independent - the practices are owned and run by husband and wife vets, Sarah and Tristan.

We listen to our vets - after having worked for many less than brilliant bosses over the years, Sarah and Tristan strive to be approachable, friendly, caring and understanding bosses, with an open door management policy. If you have a friendly, can-do, team spirit, then you'll fit right in.

We have a lovely, friendly team, and a wealth of experience and skills from our vet and nursing team.

We are a modern and progressive practice, with all the kit you'd expect, and a very pro-active approach to CPD, if you want to start or continue your certificate, then we are very happy to support you. We don't cherry-pick surgeries or cases, you can follow your cases through, and learn new skills.

Drop us an email, telling us what you've done so far, and what you're looking for: and we will get in touch with you.
